We're wishing Kim Alaburda a happy and joyful retirement after a truly incredible career!

Kim Alaburda served as the executive director of NMCSAP for the majority of its over 40 years, building it up from an organization of only one employee. During a time when sexual violence was met with silence, Kim and other advocates tirelessly fought to expand awareness, research, and resources.

Kim has always prioritized investing in not just services but in relationships. She understands that change requires building connection across professions, counties, and communities. Kim also understood that this work cannot happen when the people doing it are overworked and underpaid. Her compassionate leadership was a leading model for how staff should be treated with dignity and salaries that reflect the weight of what they do.

Thank you Kim for paving the way for the services, infrastructure, and knowledge that exist today! We wish you many many happy years of retirement!

July is Disability Pride Month — celebrating disability history, resistance, and joy!

Disability justice teaches us that needing help isn't weakness; it's part of the human experience. It teaches us that when systems aren't built for us, we get flexible. And it teaches us that autonomy, the ability to make your own decisions about your life and your body, is a right.

Disability Pride Month also is a reminder that the ongoing fight for full access and inclusion is part of our work to end sexual violence. Ableism and r**e culture are connected systems. Disabled survivors deserve to have services that are accessible by design and to have their leadership centered and uplifted.

We are committed to building a statewide network that reflects that.

🎉 Congratulations Kim Alaburda!

Kim Alaburda was recently honored by CVRC NM at their Advocacy in Action Conference for 38 years of outstanding service. Kim has been a leader in building and expanding resources for survivors through out her career and is so deeply deserving of this recognition!

As Kim Alaburda prepares to retire from NMCSAP after decades of service, we are so grateful for her incredible legacy. Kim has been instrumental in building an infrastructure of services across New Mexico and her impact has impacted so many lives in not just the state but the world. Congratulations and thank you Kim Alaburda!
