This week, Dr. Judy Lui is serving on a medical mission with OCMC in the village of Aguacate, Guatemala.

Healthcare access in this rural community is extremely limited. A government healthcare worker visits only once a month, and for many families the mission clinic is the only time each year they receive thorough medical or dental care. During this trip, the team has already treated more than 200 patients.

First photo: Dr. Lui is caring for a young girl who came in with a cold and stomach ache. During the visit, she realized the child had never learned how to brush her teeth. Dr. Lui gave her a toothbrush and toothpaste and showed both her and her mother how to brush together. The mother shared that she didn’t even have a toothbrush at home — a powerful reminder of how different access to basic care can be.

Second photo: The team is also promoting literacy by giving books to local children, something many families there don’t have access to.

We’re proud of Dr. Lui for taking her skills beyond the clinic to serve communities in need.
