Obstetric emergencies require confidence, clinical expertise, and compassionate care. Through hands-on simulation, our paramedic students practice managing these emergencies in a safe learning environment, building the skills they'll need to provide lifesaving care for both mother and baby when every second counts.

Some of our bachelor's degree students had the opportunity to study in the London area this summer to observe prehospital care, system management, and education in one of the most advanced and robust prehospital care delivery and education systems in the UK.

Pictured here: UNM EMSA students went to Buckinghamshire New University (BNU) to tour their facilities, get temporarily enrolled as students, and to observe some of their students in simulation. We then went to one of the control and education centers for South Central Ambulance Service (SCAS) which covers a large area outside of London. There, we met with their education team, learned about their (massive) service, and each UNM student had the opportunity to observe and listen in in their control center (no images there to maintain confidentiality). We also met with Will Broughton, SCAS Education Director, and Duncan Robertson, SCAS’ Chief Paramedic. We discussed how the UK EMS system moved to consolidated services and national standards with the intention that our students can implement some of those ideas at their home services.
