FRIDAY AFTERNOON UPDATE:
New Mexico State Police confirms fentanyl is the main culprit in the Mountainair hazmat incident that left three people dead.
They say DEA lab analysis confirmed the presence of fentanyl, methamphetamine, and para-fluorofentanyl, also called P4 fentanyl, in the house.
Two of the deceased have been identified as 51-year-old Mika Rascon and 49-year-old Georgia Rascon. They did release the identity of the third person.
MOUNTAINAIR, N.M. UPDATE:
We’re back on scene in Mountainair trying to learn more about the exposure incident. 3 people have been killed and 25 people total were exposed to an unknown substance. We still have no answers on what the substance is from New Mexico State Police.
We did learn that along with the 4 people in the home, a few dogs lived there as well. Mountainair Animal Control has taken 4 dogs in so far and has then quarantined. So far, none of them have symptoms and are doing well. They are still trying to catch one more dog that was in the house.
Some other new information, Mountainair EMS Chief, Josh Lewis, has been released from UNM Hospital and is doing well. There are still two people being kept for observation at this time.
Again, officials say there is no danger to the public. There is no airborne exposure risk. All exposure has come through direct contact with the house and victims. State Police has called a press conference tomorrow afternoon, so we’re hoping to learn more then. We’ll have more details tonight at 10pm on KOB 4.

AFR Hazmat crews have tested the substance inside the house in Mountainair. As soon as we learn the results of those tests, we’ll be sure to update you.
I’m on scene here in Mountainair, NM where 3 people have died and another is in serious condition at UNM Hospital after being exposed to some type of substance in a home in the area of Hanlon Avenue and W Pinion Street.
We also know 18 first responders were exposed to the same substance and taken to UNMH where they’re all being quarantined and monitored. Two are in serious condition.
Albuquerque Fire Resuces Hazmat Squad is on scene, fully suited up and inside the house for testing to try and figure out what substance caused this incident. NMSP is taking point on the investigation.
