If your RV feels gritty, your slide toppers are grinding sand into themselves every time you retract.

Monsoon dust + wind turns into sandpaper because toppers roll up tight. Any grit left on the fabric gets compressed and dragged across the material, which can lead to thinning, fuzzing, pinholes, seam wear, and frayed edges. That same grit can also migrate into the roller ends, the rail/track, and even your seals—making everything work harder (and letting more dirt inside). Add moisture to the mix and rolled-up darkness can invite mildew stains and odors if you put it away wet.

A quick post-storm routine (5–10 minutes):
1) Extend the slide fully so the topper is open.
2) Dry removal first: use a leaf blower or a soft broom with very light pressure, working from the coach outward.
3) If needed, do a gentle hose rinse (skip the aggressive nozzle).
4) Let it dry before retracting if you can—even 20–30 minutes helps. If you must retract wet, set a reminder to extend later and dry it out.

Avoid the fast mistakes that shorten topper life:
- Don’t scrub before you rinse (that’s just grinding grit in).
- Don’t pressure wash up close.
- Don’t roll it up wet and forget it.
