Since 2021, Digital Collections Curator Jill Hartke has been bringing our Photo Archives to life — and now it’s a series.
This episode takes us to 1930s Albuquerque, where itinerant photographers roamed Depression-era America with little more than a camera and a road. No studio. No address. Just a hustle: photograph people, then sell them their own portrait.
Our archives hold the glass plate proof — in part 2 of this episode we will see images of downtown Albuquerque businesses from 1930 and 1931, captured by one of these wandering lenses.
