Conecuh Ridge
by Conecuh Brands, Mattituck, NY
Style: Straight Bourbon Whiskey
Strength: 50.3 % ABV, Aged 5 Years in Charred American Oak

👀Appearance: Burnished copper in color with moderate viscosity that leaves bourbon beads clinging along the glass after a few gentle rolls
👃🏽Nose: Lightly coated brown sugar corn biscuits, sliced apples, white pepper, leather and a touch of minerality
👅Taste: Stewed apples, more white pepper, leather and oak tannins. Surprisingly briny with sea salt, with light touches of vanilla and corn meal.
🏁Finish: Lingering sea salt and peppery notes that dominate the conversation with a few noticeable whispers of brown sugar, as everything else drops off sharply.

🤔Thoughts & Conclusions: This is a bourbon that drinks more like an Irish whiskey. It’s refreshing and light and although you can’t really call it a young bourbon it feels that way. This would be an ideal candidate for a high ball cocktail on a hot summer day for sure. Handcrafted by the makers of to commemorate the opening of the Conecuh Ridge Distillery in Troy, Alabama. Made using their recipe no. 1, and barreled on 10/13/2017. I recommend this dram for the “Whiskey Novice,” those that don’t feel like getting past the tiger just to pet the zebra.

Pirate Weekend
by aka Krebs Brewing Co., McAlester, OK. Style: Stout Aged in Rum Barrels with Coconut, Cacao Nibs and Marshmallow Flavor. Strength: 14.4 % ABV.

👀Appearance: Someone turned off the lights blackness, with a thick viscous body
💀Head: Espresso brown layer that Stays Puft
👃🏽Nose: Thick lathering of brown sugar and English toffee up front, dark chocolate truffles, dried chili peppers, a subtle jigger of rum spice, and as expected toasted marshmallow
👅Taste: Creme brûlée, melted caramel, caramelized brown sugar, more dark chocolate, coconut oil, cloves, cinnamon, glazed doughnuts and more marshmallows

🤔Thoughts & Impressions: I’m an avid fan of Prairie stouts and couldn’t wait to give this a try. So imagine what it was like to discover the first bottle I opened was infected! This is sadly not a unique experience and find that this happens more often than I care for. Luckily I found another bottle at a local liquor store. I even asked if they had a return policy in case the whole batch was infected. I kept my fingers crossed and this one in the fridge for only a few days. This one was good to go and delivered all the flavor I expected rather than ungodly bitterness from being infected. Sweet!!! Yes this one is sweet, but sweet that my hopes of reviewing this one didn’t fail. I’m feeling pretty lucky to be honest, and happy I got to experience this one as intended. This delivers everything the label promises. I like that they used a rum barrel as opposed to bourbon even though the flavors imparted are very close! Tons of brown sugar and caramel but also a rich and full chocolate body and touch of subtle spices. Cheers to being persistent!

Cherry Bomb!
by aka Krebs Brewing Co., McAlester, OK. Style: Imperial Stout Aged on Cherries, Coffee, Cacao Nibs, Vanilla Beans, and Chili Peppers. Strength: 11.5 % ABV.

👀Appearance: Nothing escapes the blackness…except the brown oily sheen that is left when swirling the glass
💀Head: Thin, brown froth that lingers but isn’t hefty. Enough to let you know it’s there.
👃🏽Nose: Someone serving cherry pie? Yes, and it comes in a tall tulip glass. Tart and sweet cherries are definitely on the menu, shocker. This is a chocolate covered Maraschino cherry.
👅Taste: Dark chocolate covered cordial cherries. Sweet, delectable, and a perfect dessert beer.

🤔 Thoughts & Conclusions: The taste delivers as expected, no surprises, but it tastes damn good. If you don’t like decadent beers, then this may be a turn off for you. With that being said, I’m a sucker for chocolate covered cherries, and there isn’t much else you could’ve expected. It’s not complex but it is predictably flavorful. I realize there is a lot of ingredients that should be standing out, but they’re unfortunately overshadowed. Perfect for Mr. Monologue who likes to keep the convo simple.
