Will you help bring the fight to End Mass Incarceration to Albany on March 16? RSVP at https://rebrand.ly/MassInc

Earlier this year, Senator Salazar issued a scathing report on the horrors of New York’s incarceration system and offered a roadmap for addressing the longstanding and acute crisis.

The following provides an edited excerpt from that report:

“New York’s prisons and jails are in crisis—an everyday nightmare with deep, longstanding roots in decades of community disinvestment, racist policing and prosecution, and draconian policymaking.

Despite the stated intentions of those in charge, on a functional level, the system appears to exist primarily to cause trauma and harm. That goal is achieved every single day in every correctional facility: Safety, accountability, and transparency are the exceptions, not the norm. Any claim that New York’s carceral system serves to make our communities safer is premised upon the dehumanization of those directly impacted by the system, for such a claim depends on viewing incarcerated people and their families as less than human and as unprotected by basic principles of human rights.

Much better, and much less harmful, alternatives exist to incarceration. Bold action is necessary. Each month that passes with the continuation of the existing structures, policies, and practices causes harm to individuals, communities, and families.”
On March 16, we’ll travel to Albany for rallies, press conferences, and meetings with lawmakers. Transportation and food provided from across the state. Together, we’ll demand the passage of nine reform bills that would expand fair pathways home and transform the environment inside as solutions to the DOOCS Humanitarian Crisis and to put an end to mass incarceration.

RSVP to join us in Albany on March 16 to fight to End Mass Incarceration.
Please reach out to Nick at [email protected] with any questions.

Together we will win. ✊🏿✊🏼✊🏻✊🏽
