Here’s a photo of me putting the finishing touches on this mural with anti-graffiti clear coat, safety suit and all! 💪

After years of painting, I’ve come to appreciate the prep work and aftercare that goes into ensuring a mural’s longevity. This photo captures the scale of my canvas against the brick, I can’t believe I applied 2 coats in one day 🤪

Honestly, applying the clear coat was more intense than the painting itself, but seeing the final result makes it all worth it!

Masonry Apprentices Shine at National Competition during World of Concrete Convention

Las Vegas, NV – January 2024 – Upstate New York masonry apprentices John Synek and Matt McCarty from Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Local No. 2 recently competed at the World of Concrete Convention skills competition held last week in Las Vegas, NV. Synek placed within his division for the second straight year, while McCarty represented well in his first-ever competition. The annual contest highlights the top masonry apprentices from across the United States.

Synek a third-year apprentice hailing from Forestport, NY, showcased his remarkable skills and secured the second place in his division. This impressive achievement marks his second consecutive year placing in the national competition.

McCarty, a first-year apprentice from Fulton, NY, demonstrated remarkable skill and resilience in his first national competition against 15 other first-year apprentices within his division. Although McCarty did not place, he received commendation for his outstanding representation. Matt showcased exemplary confidence while competing at the national level, further highlighting the caliber of apprentices affiliated with the union.

This year’s competition featured nearly 50 apprentices from across the country. Representing various local jurisdictions. Apprentices demonstrated their exceptional talent at the prestigious competition, which is a highlight of the World of Concrete Convention.

"We are immensely proud of John’s remarkable achievement, placing second in his division for the second consecutive year. His dedication and skill exemplify the high standards upheld by the Bricklayers Allied Craftworkers Union No. 2. Matt’s participation and commendable performance further underscore our commitment to fostering excellence in our apprentices," said Pat Tirino, President of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Local No. 2.

The World of Concrete Convention provided a platform for apprentices like Synek and McCarty to showcase their talents on a national stage, surrounded by industry professionals and leaders. This annual event continues to be a vital hub for the commercial concrete and masonry construction industries, offering opportunities for networking, education, and exposure to cutting-edge products and technologies.
