Spring frees you from the grey, cold and entrapment of winter and into the joy and raucousness of the summer of life, so hot that your insides are as warm and tender as the pink glow from the sun on your shoulders. Summer ebbs like the receding tide as it returns to the darkness of the sea. The usually warm onshore winds, are now blowing like the opening of a freezer, instead of refreshing you from the sizzling sun, it is chilling you, causing you to run to your vehicle to retrieve your friend’s sweater. The trees are now as full of color as a painter’s palette. Returning home there is a skim coat of ice on the pond and the sun is reflecting off the christaline edge of the lake. Winter is slowly tightening its grip. The snow that used to be such a joy to see, is now viewed as a handicap to mobility and backroad cruising. My New Year’s Eve wish is to make it at least one more trip around the sun. I don’t really object to being in the winter of my life, although as I type this there are tears on my cheeks. I would like to cast my line in the Kinderhook Creek, which is just behind where I live, jump off the Big Rock at French’s Park, fall camp at Pillsbury, to enjoy the unbelievable foliage and, this is my greatest wish of all and most likely the most difficult to attain at all, to ski, at least one run, with my two sons, Jeff and Seth, and Seth’s two boys. Truth be known I would love to experience all these joys on a few more trips around the sun ❤️
