Reminder! Join us for a free webinar tonight at 7pm EDT. All are welcome including advocates, organizers, neighbors and anyone who cares about New York’s energy future.

Governor Hochul has been building nuclear energy into the foundation of New York’s energy plans while more affordable renewable options keep getting sidelined. Nuclear is too costly, too toxic and too slow and Indigenous communities are already paying the price.

Communities across the state are fighting back and this webinar is where we get organized.

500+ people from across New York State convened in Albany to demand the legislature protect public health and the environment and actually lower New Yorkers’ energy bills.

Hundreds of New Yorkers representing health, environmental, student, climate and consumer protection organizations joined an emergency rally and press conference demanding the legislature protect the climate law, and urge Governor Hochul to implement clean energy and energy efficiency solutions that actually lower New Yorkers’ energy bills.

Last week, Governor Hochul revealed a plan to gut New York’s climate law, the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act, which is designed to reduce New York’s reliance on volatile fossil fuels and stabilize energy prices with clean, affordable energy. Hochul’s plan would allow New York to maintain the fossil fuel status quo by changing how we account for methane, making it appear that New York’s emissions have declined when they have actually stayed the same. Hochul also wants to delay any requirement to even introduce regulations for the law until December 31, 2030.

"Renewable energy is clean and affordable today and will remain so tomorrow, without the pollution, health impacts, and price volatility of dirty fossil fuels. New Yorkers overwhelmingly want more clean energy and climate action. We urge our legislative leaders and Governor Hochul to focus on deploying renewable energy and efficiency measures and implementing the climate law, not making tired excuses and giving in to the fossil fuel industry." said Renee Vogelsang, NY Director, Frack Action

Today, New Yorkers from across the state rallied outside of Governor Hochul's State of the State Address to demand that she STAND UP FOR THE CLIMATE!

We decried how Gov. Hochul has retreated on climate change and caved to the fossil fuel industry, and we called on her to follow the state's climate law, stop permitting fossil fuel projects, and ramp up renewable energy.

We called for bold leadership that puts our climate, health, and environment ahead of corporate polluter profits.

Thanks to so many fellow organizations, advocates, health professionals, and state legislators for being with us, including Senator Lea Webb, Assemblymember Emily Gallagher, and Assemblymember Anna Kelles!

After years of grassroots organizing, Governor Hochul signed legislation that eliminates the 100-foot rule, an outdated policy that lets utility companies expand the fossil fuel system - paid for through our utility bills - while hooking residents onto polluting, expensive fracked gas that contributes to the climate crisis. The 100-foot rule costs New Yorkers $600 million annually in higher energy bills at a time when many families are struggling to heat their homes without breaking the bank.

Thanks to the Governor’s signature, New York will begin the process of eliminating this unnecessary rule, bringing us one step closer to cleaner heat, and lower bills. We applaud all the organizations in our movement who fought for years to stop this fossil fuel subsidy, paid for by us!
