The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced more than $14 Million in Brownfields Multipurpose, Assessment and Cleanup (MAC) grants to accelerate the cleanup of polluted sites across New York. The EPA also provided $1.5 Million in supplemental funding to two high-performing Brownfields Revolving Loan Fund (RLF) grantees in New York.

Grantees include the Herkimer County Industrial Development Agency; the Cities of Utica, Rochester, Jamestown, Johnstown, and New York; the Village of Greenwich; Montgomery County; the Rochester Housing Authority; the Shinnecock Indian Nation, and the Southern Tier 8 Regional Board.

"New York has always thrived when local communities are empowered to shape their own economic future. Whether it is manufacturing, housing, energy infrastructure, tourism, or technology investment, the decisions that affect a community’s future are often best made by the people who live and work there.

Some communities may welcome technology infrastructure as an opportunity to diversify their tax base, create construction jobs, attract investment, and support related economic activity. Others may decide that the costs outweigh the benefits. That decision should belong to local leaders."
