It's been a wild few weeks for APD's high school interns!

At the start of the summer, we welcomed two bright high students to our team, both eager to learn and make a difference in their community. Throughout their internship, they had the opportunity to shadow and assist personnel in Patrol, Traffic, Dispatch, and Investigations, gaining firsthand insight into the many roles that keep our city safe.

Their experience even included helping rescue three baby raccoons that had become trapped inside a home's wall!

Thank you both for spending part of your summer with us. We hope this experience inspires you to continue serving your community and becoming the leaders of tomorrow. We can't wait to see what the future holds for you!

Interested in joining the next class of APD high school interns? Check back in Spring 2027 for information on our next internship opportunities.

Alameda and San Francisco Police Work Together To Recover Stolen Cash

On Thursday, June 25 at approximately 5:45 pm, Alameda Police officers responded to the 1200 block of Park Street for the report of a vehicle burglary. An ATM replenishment technician was making a scheduled service stop when their vehicle was burglarized. Nearly $15,000 in cash was stolen during the burglary.

During the investigation, officers quickly identified the suspect vehicle and notified neighboring law enforcement agencies. A short time later, the San Francisco Police Department (SFPD) located the vehicle and detained the sole occupant. After Alameda Police officers responded to the scene, a search of the vehicle led to the recovery of the stolen cash, as well as narcotics. With the help of Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) technology, officers determine the victim had been followed prior to the incident.

The suspect was arrested for vehicle burglary and narcotics offenses. The case has been forwarded to the Alameda County District Attorney's Office for review.

This incident is an important reminder to stay aware of your surroundings and to never leave valuables unattended in your vehicle, even for a few moments. If you suspect you are being followed, do not drive home or to your destination. Instead, drive to a well-lit, populated location or to the nearest police station. While en route, call 9-1-1 to advise dispatchers of the situation.

We appreciate the outstanding assistance from the SFPD. Their attentiveness to APD’s notification helped bring this case to a successful resolution.
