May this Pentecost inspire us to be amazed and astonished by the continued work of the Holy Spirit among us. Let our hearts be stirred so that we faithfully answer the Spirit’s calling, until all people in the world hear in their own language how deep and rich is the love of God.

On Maundy Thursday, many Christians partake in the Lord’s Supper as a remembrance of Christ’s last supper with his disciples before his death. By eating and drinking the Lord’s Supper, we are reminded that Jesus wants us to love each other and to forgive each other as he has done for us: “Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another” (John 13:34). This is the command represented in the word “Maundy,” which comes from the Latin mandatum, meaning “command.” On this day and every day, may our lives be marked by Christ’s love for us as we extend that love to others.
