American Legion Riders Chapter 26 Aiken, SC

Seventeen Chapter 26 Riders on nine motorcycles and in two cars departed Aiken July 5 to transport The Nation of Patriots' Patriot Tour flag to Savannah, Georgia. Riders endured temperatures in the upper 90s with heat index values of up to 105 degrees during the 155-mile ride to Savannah. Because of those conditions, and the added heat of helmets, safety gear and engines, the Riders prioritized hydration and cooling. The route planner added an extra comfort stop and began the ride an hour earlier than planned, to try to beat the heat. Several riders took advantage of walk-in coolers at convenience stores to cool off. The group arrived safely and on-time and executed the flag transfer at Savannah Harley Davidson where a member of the local Chapter of the Harley Owners Group took charge of the flag. Three riders returned to Aiken the same day enduring the late afternoon heat and humidity for a round-trip total of 312 miles. Three intrepid riders joined the assistant director on the pre-ride of the planned route for the Chapter's leg of the Nation of Patriot's Patriot Tour. The group traveled to Savannah Harley Davidson which will be the flag transfer location on July 5. The pre-ride identified the need for a different waypoint/comfort break on the ride to Savannah and identified an intersection that is unsuitable for a large group ride (back to the route planning app). Lunch was had at Snazzy's in Savannah before the group rode back to Aiken.
