Our next spotlight comes from our administrative assistant Janet Myers.
"Over my 11 years as Administrative Assistant for UGA Extension Office in Cook Co., and working along by the 4-H youth. I have witnessed so much growth in many youths that has passed through our 4-H Club. Some starting as cloverbuds, the homeschooled and all the way to Sr. 4-Hāers. Just seeing the ones that have gotten confidence in themselves, to building friendships and seeing the ones that donāt speak up for their self, to having self-assurance.
Cook County 4-H Club is a wonderful organization for our youth, where it helps them have a voice and helps in building leadership. Watching them work side by side with hands-on projects, to taking day trips to help in our community service activities, camps theyāve attended, some will remain life lifelong friends wherever life leads them.
The unity that holds them close will be something they will never forget. Iām certainly glad to be of help when needed. Even if itās to collect funds, ordering materials, paper work needed for events, phone calls from a parent, itās all about helping and making a difference in the world for our youth. If your child isnāt involved in 4-H we would love to have them join us in Cook Co."

Today our spotlight Comes from our Program Assistant Mr. Critter Kuhbander. This is Mr. Critter's views on 4-H in Cook County and in Georgia.
"Starting work in Cook County in August of 2023 marked my 13th consecutive program year being apart of Georgia 4-H. As a youth participant I started my 4-H journey in livestock shows. Through that I learn responsibility through learning how to care properly for livestock. When I got into 4th grade, I was introduced into an entire new world of what my life could look like. Through experiences like camp I learned the importance of respect for others, and through project achievement competitions I learned about friendly Competition.
As 4-H professionals we are tasked to lead our students to something that is their passion, or their spark. Mine came in the summer between my 8th and 9th grade year, through a program called One Georgia. One Georgia allowed me as a student to discover different ways that agriculture affect our everyday lives. Through that program I met some of my closest friends, and really started to develop who I was as person. For the first time I had truly felt like I belonged somewhere.
After that, I went on to run for senior board and was elected as the 2023-23 Southeast District Senior Board President. Here I learned a different for of responsibility. I strengthened my public speaking skills and truly developed my professional skills. After I graduated, I spent my first summer at Rock Eagle as a camp counselor. I was unaware of how this summer would impact the trajectory of my life. Through loss and gain this summer made me rethink many aspects of my life, but it is ultimately what led me to Cook County.
My first summer I met Katrina Searcy as an adult leader and she told me about the position here. After camp I applied and got the job. Since I have been here I had discovered my passion for educating youth and giving back to this amazing program and decided that I wanted this is what I wanted to do full time when I graduate college. Now two years later, I have seen the impact this program has had on so many children and know first hand what it can do for them."

Today our first spotlight Comes from our County Extension Coordinator and Ag and Natural Resource Agent Mr. Tucker Price. This is Mr. Tucker's views on 4-H in Cook County and in Georgia.
āIn my position a County Extension Coordinator I have seen firsthand the positive impacts the 4-H program has on youth. It has been through project achievements where students can share knowledge (through public speaking) that they have gained on a topic they are interested in; camp experiences where they will learn team work and develop friendships that are likely to carry on later in life in professional careers; and many judging team events in which youth develop skills ranging from consumer education to evaluating soil types to mention a few. Iāve been fortunate to see former 4-Hāers come in and involve their kids in the same program that provided them with positive experiences that last a lifetime. Serving as an Agriculture Agent working directly with the agriculture community, its especially rewarding to listen to farmers talk about their experiences in 4-H and the activities they were involved with. The 4-H Program has given so many kids the opportunity to get involved, learn, and develop positive life skills that they will carry for a lifetime.ā
