Kitchen Glow Up

This is a kitchen I originally redesigned several years ago that was later impacted by a hot water leak (the updated bathrooms were shared last year). The entire home was gutted, and the kitchen cabinetry was unfortunately damaged while in storage.

Because my client already loved the storage and prep space from the original design, we focused on a thoughtful refresh—updating the space with a beautiful stone cabinet color, black honed granite countertops, and a fresh, timeless backsplash. The bar area just off the kitchen received its own moment, finished with an edgier black backsplash accented with brushed brass dots. Rather than introducing tile flooring again, my client chose to continue the warm wood flooring throughout the first floor for a more seamless feel.

When I first redesigned this kitchen, the homeowner agreed to keep the quirky old chimney in place and embrace the home’s 100+ year-old character—and I’m so glad she did. A funny moment during the refresh: during a walkthrough, I noticed trim had been added to disguise the chimney’s unevenness. We quickly had that removed, letting the original character shine instead.

Proof character beats perfection every time…

If you’re planning a kitchen update and want professional guidance on layout, finishes, materials, and cohesive design, get in touch—I’d love to help.

Snapshot of the full Mountain Modern project…

A little shimmer…soft neutrals and a little brass glow—another reveal from my mountain-modern project that came together beautifully. Designed specially for my client’s daughter, this space pairs a herringbone feature wall, custom tile layout in the shower (tile installer might not have been a fan 😂), veined floor tile, and warm brass fixtures for a look that feels fresh and elevated.
