Not all tubs are created equal… and using the wrong cleaner can permanently damage them. 👀

Here’s a simple breakdown of the most common tub types + what’s safest to use on them ⬇️

🛁 Fiberglass Tubs
Usually lightweight, slightly flexible, and common in newer homes or one-piece shower/tub combos.

SAFE:
• Mild dish soap
• pH-neutral cleaners
• Soft scrub brushes/microfiber cloths
• Gentle bathroom foam cleaners

AVOID:
• Steel wool
• Harsh abrasives
• Heavy-duty powders
• Magic erasers too often (can dull finish over time)

🛁 Acrylic Tubs
Smooth, glossy, and more durable than fiberglass, but still scratchable.

SAFE:
• pH-neutral cleaners
• Vinegar diluted occasionally for hard water (spot test first)
• Soft cloths/sponges

AVOID:
• Abrasive powders
• Scouring pads
• Harsh solvents/acetone

🛁 Porcelain/Cast Iron Tubs
Heavy, solid, and very durable. Usually older homes.

SAFE:
• Most bathroom cleaners
• Mild abrasives in moderation
• Hard water removers carefully used

AVOID:
• Letting harsh acids sit too long
• Metal scrubbers on chipped areas (can rust underneath)

🛁 Cultured Marble / Natural Stone Tubs
These are the ones people accidentally damage ALL the time.

SAFE:
• Stone-safe cleaners only
• pH-neutral products
• Soft microfiber cloths

AVOID:
• Vinegar
• Acidic cleaners
• Bar Keeper’s Friend
• Lime removers
• Anything acidic (can etch the finish)

✨ Pro tip:
If you don’t know what type of tub you have, start with the gentlest cleaner first. You can always go stronger… but you can’t undo damage.

A lot of “stained” tubs are actually damaged finishes from years of harsh products, not dirt.
