You’ve heard of a teenage takeover... this is the counter-offensive.
My 17-year-old’s room has officially been reclaimed by management. In all seriousness, sometimes a teenager doesn’t realize they’ve outgrown the systems that once worked in their room. Our sanity from room chaos was hanging by a thread; much like the trail of ripped paint left behind by those infamous LED strip lights. So, what 6 things do I know so far?
1. The Atlanta Falcons had 9 years to prove this prior paint job worth it. Epic fail.
2. The "Boo% Light" must die
3. Clothes purge is eminent
4. The old bed must’ve only been held together by faith
5. You can’t take your very first room painting too seriously: I’ve already verified I have no idea what the *^> # I’m doing.
6. Said teen doesn’t get a square inch of this new space without putting in the manual labor

What really matters?
I’ve been boastful at times about becoming an empty nester, but there’s nothing like sitting at a senior photo session to humble you back in place and remind you how quickly the time goes.

If there’s one thing I would change, it would be the amount of time I spent worrying about things that, in the end, didn’t matter nearly as much as the people standing beside me.

So, from one mom to another: if you’re choosing between making memories with your kids or keeping the house picture-perfect, let that fight go. If you’re not going to give up the fight, then hire a house manager.

Leave the dishes in the sink, the laundry in the basket and the dust on the shelves.

Wake up early and go get breakfast together.
Take the random road trip.
Say yes to messy forts in the living room.
Sit on the sidelines.
Say yes to the ice cream run.
Take the pictures, even when you don’t feel camera-ready.

Because one day you’ll be sitting at a senior photo session wondering how the years disappeared so fast, and I promise you won’t be wishing you’d spent more time cleaning.

You’ll be wishing for just a little more time.
