I lost my beautiful maternal Grandmother. We bid farewell to our Jajja, Eunike Namala Mayito, who departed this life at the remarkable age of 107.
Jaja was a woman of extraordinary grace and endurance. She lived long enough to witness generations rise, families grow, and the world transform before her eyes. Through it all, she remained a loving presence, a keeper of stories, and a living bridge between the past and the future. To sit with her was to sit with history itself.
While we mourn her passing, we also celebrate a life fully lived a life marked by resilience, wisdom, faith, and joy. She inspired many through her strength of spirit and her unwavering enthusiasm for life.
One of my favorite memories of her came when she was 105 years old. She asked my father to buy her a kit for the Kabaka Run. We smiled at the request, but what followed left us astonished. Dressed in her kit, she sped through her compound with determination and pride, eager to show her support. We were amazed by how physically fit she remained and how sharp and present her mind still was. What a woman. What a force of nature.
Her journey reminds us that age is not merely counted in years, but measured by the vitality of oneβs spirit and the love one leaves behind.
Rest in peace and power, Jaja Eunike. Thank you for the stories, the wisdom, the laughter, and the example. Your legacy lives on in all of us.
Until we meet again ππΎποΈ
