Today, we held our second strategic planning meeting with our co-conveners of the Citizens' Convention on Extractives and Energy, as preparations for the 9th CCE gather momentum.
The convention returns in October 2026 under the theme: Energy for People: Access, Affordability, Dignity and Inclusion. A theme that places citizens at the centre of Uganda's energy conversation and asks the harder questions about who the sector is truly serving.
Today's meeting focused on sharpening the roadmap, aligning partner contributions, and ensuring that by October, the convention speaks with one clear, citizen-led voice.

Earlier today, we paid a courtesy visit to SEATINI Uganda to explore opportunities for collaboration as we gear up for the upcoming Citizens’ Convention on Extractives and Energy (CCE) under the theme “Energy for People: Access, Affordability and Dignity.”
The engagement focused on building a stronger, more people-centered conversation around extractives and energy.
Looking forward to achieving greater things with them this year.

As a member of BUCOSA, we joined the coalition in Kikuube District to train local government leaders and key stakeholders on environmental and natural resource governance laws.
Through this engagement, we strengthened community and institutional capacity to understand, apply, and enforce environmental frameworks.
This comes at a critical time, as environmental degradation illegal practices such as deforestation, wetland encroachment, and weak enforcement of environmental laws are undermining livelihoods, accelerating biodiversity loss, and slowing progress on climate action.

Today, our Projects Officer, Geofrey Ahuura, joined Good Forests Foundation Uganda and other stakeholders in Hoima District for a tree planting activity as part of the pre-engagements on environmental conservation ahead of the International Day of Forests, commemorated annually on 21st March.
This engagement supports our objective of strengthening community agency through locally led environmental action and promoting the equitable distribution of resources.
Building on this initiative, we will lobby for the provision of free tree seedlings to community-based monitors and local communities, advancing sustainable development efforts that improve livelihoods and enhance the quality of life for all.

SPOTLIGHT: Jalia Namatovu, a strong advocate for women’s inclusion in Uganda’s mining sector.
Through collaboration with GRA, and in her role as leader of the Mubende Women Miners Association ( (MUWOGOMA), she has supported more than 300 women in Kasanda to advance land access, adopt safer mining practices, and formalize their work. These efforts continue to create jobs and expand opportunities for women, youth, and communities across the district.
This Women’s Month, we celebrate her leadership and the collective efforts to strengthen women’s participation and equitable benefits in Uganda’s extractive sector.
