The health condition of celebrated Kitgum-based MC and comedian Awula Bonny, popularly known as Lady Sonia, has taken a concerning turn, prompting a medical referral from Kitgum General Hospital to Lira Regional Referral Hospital for advanced care.
Sonia, who recently made headlines after he was assaulted by unidentified individuals near Gates Bar in Apollo Grounds, Kitgum Municipality, has spent the past two weeks hospitalized and largely unattended. The incident, coupled with other medical conditions that cannot be revealed for his privacy, sparked a wave of shock and sympathy from fans, fellow entertainers, and the general public.
According to medics at Kitgum General Hospital, Sonia’s condition has deteriorated beyond what the facility can adequately manage. After thorough assessments, doctors recommended transferring him to either Gulu or Lira Regional Referral Hospital for better management.

Following deliberations among friends, musicians, and community members, Lira was selected as the preferred option — not only for its medical capacity but also because of its proximity to Sonia’s ancestral home, making it easier for relatives and well-wishers to visit and support him during treatment.
His transfer was successfully carried out on the morning of Tuesday, August 5, with logistical and financial support mobilized by a team of fellow MCs, musicians, and close friends. After nearly two weeks of facing treatment without an attendant, Sonia was finally joined on Monday evening by his mother and sister, who will now be by his side in Lira.
In an emergency meeting held that same evening, the organizing team resolved that all financial contributions towards Sonia’s medical care, upkeep, and welfare be sent directly to his MTN number 0791406440, registered under the name Nyeko Johnathan.
