Clarification Post,
I made a post about the medical internship pay cut, and it seems many have not understood me correctly.

When I write about a Doctor's issue, it does NOT mean I have forgotten Nurses, where I truly belong and where my core foundation lies.

What affects Doctors affects Nurses&other healthcare professionals much more&way beyond.

If by estimate Nurses cover over 75% of the human resource and do the donkey work, actually they should be paid more for what they do.

Not less. Not nothing.

Dont forget as I earlier stated, if you are not at the policy table, you fight with your keyboard.

So let's continue to write, shout and talk. Maybe they will hear and listen.

And when I speak about Nurses' issues, these are way beyond.

All these intern cadres are doing internship and the policy is not catering for their welfare either.

Many have asked, "Don’t Nurses & Other professionals need to be paid." That is true. They truly deserve to be paid.

I will still state this again, this is total POLITICS.

We need interns at all levels to be paid. Whoever works, let them be facilitated.

The repercussions are many,

·🎊Extortion of funds
🎊Poor attitudes
🎊Poor accountability
🎊Demotivation etc etc

These will later affect the professionals, the system and the community at large hence affecting quality of care and service delivery.

This should again be a win-win for the government and Ministry of Health to have these interns do the work.

It is not too hard to find a budget to support them. We need the WILL.

They are humans. They have responsibilities. They have lives to live.

One thing I note, many students on government scholarships come from good families and easily get sponsorships.

But many on private are from humble families. Where will they get the funds to support themselves?

I feel it will be so fair if everyone is paid for what they do because it is a win-win.

But let me go further.

We need to shift from words from calling Nurses "heroes," "frontline soldiers," "angels"to real, tangible appreciation and improved welfare.

We need:

✨Pay accelerations
✨Promotions
✨Recruitment
✨Reduced workloads

Colleagues are dying silently, their health is at risk. They have pains in their backs. They are developing ulcers. They are having reproductive and relationship issues. The list is endless.

We need better. We need action.

We are tired of sweet words that come with nothing.

Nurses are so core to the system, but many times we are undermined, overworked and underpaid. We truly deserve better.

We need consideration.
We need inclusion.
We need to be seen and heard.

Let everyone doing internship be paid.

Don't scrap their welfare and funds. Either way, look for funders, budget allocations and wages to actually make their allowances better and more decent.

No money. No work
