Honoring the Uganda Martyrs and Celebrating Our Heritage 🙏

As we commemorate Uganda Martyrs Day, we reflect on the courage, faith, and sacrifice of the martyrs whose witness continues to inspire generations. We also remember the significant role Christianity played in shaping our nation’s history, beginning with the arrival of Simeon Lourdel and Brother Amans at Kigungu, a moment that marked the beginning of a new chapter in Uganda’s spiritual journey.

Today, the churches of Kigungu and Bugonga stand as enduring symbols of that rich heritage and the lasting impact of faith in our communities.

This year, while Martyrs Day is being observed nationwide, the traditional national celebrations at the Namugongo Martyrs Shrine have been canceled due to Ebola outbreak concerns. Instead, the day is being commemorated through decentralized celebrations in local parishes and dioceses across the country.

As we honor the martyrs, may we renew our commitment to God’s ways, resist temptation, strengthen our faith, and continue building united and compassionate communities.

Happy Uganda Martyrs Day from all of us at Pride of Entebbe! 🌟
“Their faith lit the way; may their legacy continue to guide us.”

The Healer of Teeth and Shepherd of Souls: Celebrating Dr. Musa Ssettimba

As we gear up for the 14th Anniversary of Pride of Entebbe we take a moment to look back at the giants whose shoulders we stand upon. Today, we celebrate a true Entebbe icon, the late Dr. Musa Ssettimba. Born on January 12, 1924, the same year as Ssekabaka Mutesa II.Dr. Ssettimba’s life was a masterclass in how professional excellence and unwavering faith can walk hand-in-hand.

As medical pioneer, Dr. Ssettimba wasn't just a dentist; he was a trailblazer. In 1946, he began his journey at Mulago Hospital as Uganda’s first black dental practitioner. At a time when specialized medicine was reserved for a few, he trained under the country’s only two European dentists, eventually becoming a master of his craft.

By 1958, he moved to Entebbe with his family, where he quickly became known as one of the finest dental surgeons in the country. To the people of Entebbe, he was the gold standard of care.

While his hands were busy healing bodies, his heart was focused on saving souls. In 1951, after being moved by the witness of Seventh-day Adventist preachers at Mulago, Dr. Ssettimba was baptized. He didn't keep his faith private; he turned his life into a mission field.

His devotion was tangible, Before there was a formal church building, Dr. Ssettimba opened his sitting room in Katabi Quarters for believers to gather and worship.

He was the first in Entebbe to donate a portion of his compound on private land in Bitooke ( Division B ) Kiwafu East, to ensure the Adventist Church had a permanent home, which is still standing till today and so is his home, what a lasting gift it was.

The history of Dr. Ssettimba’s ministry is physically etched into our town. When the congregation grew too large for his home, they moved to Kyagalanyi Nursery School in Katabi. Present day Entebbe-Changsha Model Primary School.

Later Dr Ssettimba and team requested the SDA administration of the time to allow them build the church which was called Entebbe SDA central church opposite the mayors garden as the pioneer.

Today the church is one of those beautiful landmarks in Entebbe and Uganda, and it’s the Entebbe Central District headquarter.

Dr. Ssettimba is also a grand father of legendary Ugandan Jazz musician Isiah Katumwa, Ssettimba lived a long, fruitful life, remaining a pillar of our community well into his 80s. He proved that you don't have to choose between being a person of science and a person of God. You can be both.

As we continue to showcase Entebbe to the rest of the world every year, As we Pride of Entebbe on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter (X) , TikTok and WhatsApp , We join his family, the Seventh Day Adventist Church (SDA) community and the people of Entebbe to carry his spirit of excellence and service with us.

Rest in Power, Dr. Musa Ssettimba, a pioneer, a healer, and a faithful servant .
