The emergence of modern fashion became possible thanks to the fashion system that began to develop in France during the reign of King Louis XIV, known as Louis XIV Le Roi Soleil, and this process was far from spontaneous.

French fashion has become dominant in Europe since the mid-seventeenth century. During this period, France became one of the most powerful world powers, the center of the political and cultural life of Europe. Fashion was created with this country as a significant component of cultural, political and social life. Thanks to the first, in some way, the creator of fashion, King Louis XIV and his famous finance minister Jean-Baptiste Colbert, the state took an active part in the development of the luxury industry as part of the political and cultural expansion of France. As a result, a new garment manufacturing infrastructure has emerged. State-owned enterprises controlled by the government were created, the production of clothing was legally separated from its sale. The laws on the purchase of luxury goods were drafted, which tightly controlled the consumption of fashion. Fashion was concentrated at court.

Despite the frequent wars and revolutions of the 18th and 19th centuries, France managed to maintain its reputation as a trendsetter, and Paris remained the center of world fashion.

Throughout the 17th - 19th centuries, clothing styles were constantly changing, becoming more complex, then simplifying. From the middle of the 19th century, changes began to occur in fashion, bringing it closer to modernity. Elements of a man's suit began to pe*****te into a woman's wardrobe, the appearance of sportswear was outlined, and a tendency to simplify forms of clothing arose.

The founder of such a thing as "Haute Couture" is considered the French fashion designer of English origin Charles Frederick Worth, the founder of the House of Worth fashion house. In 1868, Worth created the Haute Couture Syndicate, a Parisian organization that unites Fashion Houses, which still exists today.

The French fashion designer Paul Poiret is a fashion reformer, creator of a new way of life, a style that reigned in Europe and America until the early 1920s.
