"The Mapleton Covered Bridge at Mapleton in Lane County, Oregon spanned the Siuslaw River. The bridge, a Howe type, was built in 1934 by a Lane County work crew, supervised by Miller Sorensen. Workers included a number of CCC boys. The bridge length included 2 spans of 105 feet each and a 35-foot draw span and approaches, totaled almost 650 feet. The photo was taken on September 29, 1946. Some years later, bridge supervisor, Ole Haldorson and his work crew added an outside walkway, so school children could cross the river to attend school. The bridge was replaced in 1970 with a concrete bridge." (Ben Maxwell/Salem Public Library)
