During the day, hippos are extremely territorial in the water. Males fiercely guard their section of the river, allowing no intruders. But as soon as the sun sets and they leave the water to graze, their territorial behavior disappears. On land, it’s every hippo for itself—no leaders, no territories, just an endless search for fresh grass.
