Lights. Camera. Africa!
AFRISOS goes behind the scenes of a proud milestone as we land on the cover of Selamta Magazine, the in-flight magazine of Ethiopian Airlines.

Featuring our founder, Jigar Ganatra this moment celebrates something bigger than a cover: the sheer determination of local storytellers to raise our voices and be seen for who we are. To express ourselves unapologetically and correct the misrepresentation of Africa.

“African storytellers already have the stories. Now it’s time to co-create and inspire the world.”

A drum that can talk? How is that even possible? 🥁

The Dùndún, as the Yoruba call it, is an hour-shaped traditional percussion instrument from West Africa. It can mimic the tone and rhythm of human speech, allowing skilled drummers to “talk” through sound.

Held under one arm, the player squeezes and releases the leather cords along its sides to change the pitch transforming beats into meaningful phrases and messages.

For generations, it has been used to praise kings, send messages across villages, call communities to action, and mark important ceremonies. Isn’t that fascinating?
