🤝 Strengthening Ties, Exploring New Opportunities: FFTC Meets with the Japan-Taiwan Exchange Association, Taipei Office 🇹🇼🇯🇵

FFTC Director Mr. Vincent Chia-Rong Lin recently paid a courtesy call to Mr. KAWAI Gen, Deputy Representative of the Japan-Taiwan Exchange Association, Taipei Office, to discuss potential areas of cooperation and further strengthen institutional ties. ✨

During the meeting, Director Lin provided an overview of FFTC’s key activities for 2026 and introduced the Center’s flagship network projects and ongoing initiatives in agricultural development 🌾, capacity building 💪, and knowledge sharing 💡 across the Asia-Pacific region. As one of FFTC’s member countries, Japan has long been an important partner of the Center, and Mr. KAWAI also serves on FFTC’s Executive Board.

Deputy Representative KAWAI congratulated Director Lin on his recent appointment and shared valuable insights on potential areas for future collaboration between FFTC and Japan. He expressed particular interest in developing capacity-building programs for young farmers and agricultural scientists, emphasizing the importance of nurturing the next generation of agricultural leaders and innovators.

Mr. KAWAI also suggested inviting representatives from Japan’s Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) to participate in FFTC activities and visit the Center’s headquarters to explore opportunities for deeper cooperation and collaboration.

Mr. KAWAI also highlighted the growing importance of carbon neutrality and climate-related initiatives in agriculture, noting that these challenges require stronger international cooperation and cross-sectoral collaboration to achieve meaningful and sustainable outcomes.

👥Joining Director Lin were FFTC Deputy Director Dr. Fumio Ihara, Information Officer Ronald Mangubat, and Senior Secretary Ms. Chia Chuan Chang. Also present at the meeting was Mr. Daiki Yasuda, Director (Agriculture), Economic Affairs Department, Japan-Taiwan Exchange Association, Taipei Office, and Ms. Yunshing Chang also from the Economic Affairs Department.

🎯The meeting reaffirmed the shared commitment of FFTC and Japan to advancing agricultural innovation, human resource development, environmental sustainability, and regional cooperation for the benefit of the agricultural sector across the Asia-Pacific region.🌏✨

The FFTC management recently announced its 2026 project lineup, which includes seven workshop projects, one TAC meeting, five network projects, and one regular program. The five network projects are the following: 1) Strengthening Asia-Pacific Information Platform on Agricultural Policy (AP); 2) Asia-Pacific Biofertilizers and Biopesticides Information Platform (APBB); 3) Tropical Fruit Consortium—Addressing Climate Change Impacts on Tropical Fruit Production and Strategies of Adaptation and Mitigation (DFNet III); 4) FFTC-KM II: Enhancing FFTC’s Knowledge Management with Gen AI (KM); and 5) Enhancing International Cooperation for Sustainable Agrifood Systems Towards Net-Zero (Smart Net-Zero Agrifood Systems) (SNZ). Below is the Center’s projects/activities schedule for 2026, which will be updated on this website periodically.
