We just want to make some remarks concerning [ http://www.workaway.info/ ]www.workaway.info. It's a data bases for hosts and volunteers in a big variety of fields, including child care, helping on (organic) farms, working in hostels and much more. The official information is that volunteers should work 4-5 hours per day (5 days a week) and get accomodation and food in return.

We consider it to be a suitable option for young people who don't want to stay in one place for a long-term voluntary service but who want to travel on low budget and get to know local life abroad. It is often used by young people who do "work & travel". It is quite similar to the concept of WWOOFing and a lot of farms advertise their hosting offers as well on these platforms. Workaway is getting more popular because users only have to sign up (and pay) once, while for each country there is a separate WWOOF-website and separate registration.

For sure not all offers are totally "clean", there might be as well some of the kind as you mentioned it, Malgorzata. But generally we would not be totally negative about it. Youngsters should be aware that they agree on those offers on their own risks. But the concept is quite transparent as hosts and volunteers give each other references/feedback. It is not neccessary to sign up or to pay to have a look at the hosts. As a conclusion we would say it depends much on the individual situation concerning host and volunteer.
