Blackberry Birdsong:
There is something to be said for the methodical process of foraging. I pluck plump, sun-warmed blackberries from their bushes, carefully avoiding the many glittering spider webs festooning the prickly vegetation. The dull "thud" of the first layer hitting the bottom of my bucket is the gentle percussion of staying present. The air smells damp and rich as last night's dew evaporates into the late-morning sun. My eyes focus on the black clusters of berries, a texture that repeats over and over in my field of vision as my mind wanders. My fingers are sticky with crimson-red juice and when I close my eyes, all I can see are little clusters of ebony jewels. It's just me and the birds out here, quietly and gently enjoying this feast of fruit during a cool Oregon summer day. ----------------🌲🕊🌿---------------
