This evening at the Gulf and Caribbean Fisheries Institute (GCFI) conference the Cinefish film festival! We took some screen time with the story of an idea starting in the Diergaarde Blijdorp / Rotterdam Zoo going all the way to Bonaire! Funded by WWF Dutch Caribbean, with the help of STINAPA Bonaire and Piskabon!

Eggspedition workshop during European Union of Aquarium Curators conference in Istanbul.

On Monday the 6th of October we organized a fish egg catch and photography workshop in the Istanbul Aquarium.
The workshop was organised by the Eggspedition Europe Working Group, a part of the Marine Teleost TAG led by Sander van Lopik of RoffaReefs a program of the Rotterdam Zoo. The workshop aims to promote sustainable marine teleost breeding in European public aquariums by advancing techniques for egg collection and identification, which are foundational for future conservation efforts.

These methods are already in use in in-situ projects led by RoffaReefs, with initial ex-situ tests underway at several EUAC member aquariums. Presentations were given by Dominique Barthelemy of Oceanopolis, Riaan Boshoff of SeaLife and Attila Varga of Nyíregyházi Állatpark Sosto Zoo. It was nice to eggsplore the breeding of pelagic spawners of the Istanbul aquarium. Massive thanks to Ugur Caglar and Dilek Capanoglu of the Istanbul Aquarium to facilitate the workshop! We will replicate the workshop with the staff of the aquarium later this week!

Deze week brachten onze collega’s Johan en Joost ook een kort maar krachtig bezoek aan onze NVD-collega’s op Bonaire. 🇧🇶�Zij wisselden met ons kennis en ervaringen uit over koraalherstel en rifbescherming – onderwerpen die niet alleen hier op Bonaire, maar wereldwijd van groot belang zijn. 🌊🐠
Het is inspirerend om te zien hoe natuurbehoud, educatie en lokale samenwerking hand in hand gaan. Net als bij RoffaReefs en Blijdorp ligt de kracht in het verbinden van expertise en passie – voor een gezonde natuur, vandaag én in de toekomst.
Dank aan onze collega’s voor de warme ontvangst en de waardevolle gesprekken. Samen maken we écht het verschil. 💚
