During the 19th century, St. Mary Draperis stood as one of the most prestigious Catholic churches in Istanbul — a spiritual and cultural hub for the city’s diverse communities. Back in 1803, its congregation included around 470 Levantines, along with Arab Catholics from Aleppo and Armenian Catholics, all gathering under its elegant dome.
Visiting today, you can still feel echoes of that vibrant, multicultural past — a quiet reminder of how Istanbul has always been a meeting point of faiths, languages, and traditions.
