บ้าน Lane house หรือบ้านลู่วิ่ง ที่ถูกออกแบบด้วยโจทย์หลักคือ การสร้างบ้านที่มีพื้นที่ลู่วิ่ง หรือขี่จักรยานที่เปรียบเสมือนได้ออกกำลังกายอยู่ในสวนสาธารณะ โดยไม่ต้องออกไปข้างนอกเลย การวาง Layout ของหลังนี้จึงเกิดจากคำถามว่า เราจะจัดวางอาคารอย่างไรได้บ้าง ที่จะทำให้เกิดเป็นพื้นที่วิ่งได้ยาวที่สุด

Layout ของบ้านหลังนี้จึงถูกจัดวางให้เป็นรูปตัวยู 3 ชั้น เพื่อเกิดเป็นพื้นที่ว่างบริเวณกลางบ้านให้มากที่สุด โดยนอกจากจะแทรกวงเวียนให้สามารถวิ่งรอบที่ชั้น 1 ได้แล้วนั้น ยังมีทางลาดที่ยาวต่อเนื่องกันขึ้นไปผ่านพื้นที่ห้องนั่งเล่นและห้องนอนหลักที่บริเวณชั้น 2 เพื่อให้เกิดเป็นทางวิ่งที่เพียงพอต่อการออกกำลังกาย โดยการวิ่ง 1 รอบ จะได้ระยะทางประมาณ 200 เมตร

ส่วนกลางของบ้าน ได้วางห้องนั่งเล่นให้อยู่เหนือลู่วิ่งชั้น 1 โดยห้องนี้เปรียบเสมือนหัวใจหลักของบ้าน เมื่ออยู่ภายในห้องนั่งเล่น จะรู้สึกเหมือนลอยอยู่ในสวน เพราะระดับสายตาจะเท่ากับยอดต้นไม้ที่รายล้อมอยู่โดยรอบพอดี ส่วนห้องอื่นๆที่วางตัวล้อมอยู่รอบคอร์ทกลางนี้ ก็จะสามารถมองเห็นพื้นที่ห้องนั่งเล่นที่แทรกตัวไปกับสวน ทำให้คนในครอบครัวสามารถมองเห็นกันได้ตลอดเวลาผ่านพื้นที่สีเขียวไปพร้อมกัน

ด้วยความที่บ้านหลังนี้ตั้งอยู่ในเมือง ที่หน้าบ้านค่อนข้างติดกับทางด่วนและสะพานขนาดใหญ่ จึงต้องการบ้านที่มีความเป็นส่วนตัวสูง ไม่โดดเด่น ปิดทึบ แต่ยังต้องคำนึงถึงการอยู่อาศัยที่สบายโดยไม่รู้สึกอึดอัด จึงเลือกใช้วัสดุอิฐมอญเผา สีเทา มาใช้เป็นวัสดุหลักในการโอบล้อมตัวบ้านไว้บริเวณด้านหน้าและด้านหลัง ทำหน้าที่เป็น Double skin ให้กับตัวบ้าน เพื่อช่วยพรางสายตาจากบริบทโดยรอบ โดยเป็นการนำก้อนอิฐมาวางตัวสลับกันเพื่อให้ลมสามารถผ่านได้ และช่วยกันความร้อนเขาสู่ตัวบ้าน อีกทั้งยังเป็นการสร้าง Pattern ที่ทำให้เกิดมิติแสงและเงาที่แตกต่างในแต่ละช่วงเวลา ทำให้บ้านดูลึกลับและน่าสนใจมากขึ้น

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Lane House was conceived with the intention of creating an outdoor exercise space. The idea is to design an integrated running track within the structure of the building. Designed in order to maximize the track's length, the house is configured in a U-shaped plan positioned along the edge of the site. Entering at ground level, the ramp wraps continuously around the perimeter of the house, gradually ascending to the living space on the second floor before reaching the master bedroom on the top floor, providing direct access to the owner. A single lap of running corresponds to a 200-meter loop.

At the center of the house lies a courtyard and a living room which are elevated to provide additional running space beneath and provide visual connections to other functions and the greenery. The utilization of glass on all sides of the living room facilitates these connections and establishes a sense of a "shared" space. Here, one can observe life both indoors and outdoors, as well as in the landscape.

In terms of façade and material, the exterior wall facing outwards to the surroundings are enclosed to maintain the house's privacy. However, they are ventilated to accommodate hot and humid climate of Bangkok. The house is constructed with a double-skin façade characterized by the diagonal placement of two burnt-grey bricks to create a distinctive pattern. This pattern filters incoming heat, preserves privacy, and produces a unique light and shadow effect under the sun. With bricks, a low-maintenance material with acceptable color deterioration over time, the house is in harmony with the natural process of weathering.
