Built in 1889 as a private mansion for a wealthy Chinese-Thai merchant, the house later became a luxury hotel and even served as the Russian Embassy. Today, the dark wood, sweeping staircase, arched windows, and softly lit corridors still hold that layered past. This old restored house sits in the middle of all the skyscrapers.

On Koh Samet, tucked along the sand at Tamarind Resort, there’s a little beach bar that feels like a secret once you’re in it.

And at the center of it is Dom.

No velvet rope. No password. Just a cooler, a frozen block of crystal-clear ice, and a bartender who takes his craft seriously. Dom hand-cuts every cube himself — shaping each drink the way a proper cocktail should be built. Slow. Intentional. Balanced.

In a place where most beach bars would stop at “good enough,” he leans in. Clean pours. Thoughtful flavors. Ice so clear you almost don’t want to drop it in the glass.

It’s not a true speakeasy.
But it’s a hideaway in spirit — the kind of place you linger longer than planned.

Old Man (Hong Kong) is one of those spots that nails the vibe without trying too hard — dim, cool, a little edgy, and instantly feels like you found a “locals know” kind of place. 🍸✨

The drinks are seriously good (the kind where you take one sip and immediately start plotting your second), but what really makes it is the staff. Friendly, dialed-in, and happy to guide you if you’re not sure what to order — no attitude, just good energy and great recommendations.

Great little bar in SoHo part of Hong Kong for people watching and a drink. Lychee martini 🍸 and Old Fashioned.

Found a quiet place above the city during a quick rainfall. Very good old fashioned, yummy snacks, AMAZING views, and a lovely staff. Highly recommend!

Not the most hidden or best old fashioned we’ve found BUT definitely a fun and unexpected find in Albania and one of the few old fashioned we found there.

Found a not so hidden speakeasy in Tuscany. Bistro by day and bar by night. Great place for food or drink but we were happy to find a really good old fashioned! 🥃🥃

Found Lincoln’s in Denver and the $5 drinks were good! Fun atmosphere and great bartenders.

The Bible Club in Portland, OR was a lot of fun! Cute old house converted into a speakeasy vibe bar. Libations are prohibition style with a touch of creativity from the awesome bartenders. Small space inside that doesn’t take reservations but don’t worry if you can’t get in there, check out the revival tent outside for a completely different vibe! Both a lot of fun with really good drinks. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

B&GC in Cherry Creek has a nondescript door and is in a basement but that is probably as far as the speakeasy vibe goes for me. The staff were great, decor was fun and drinks were good but pricey and it was very loud. It was a fun night and glad we tried it. ⭐️⭐️⭐️
