Happy 9th Birthday, Perm P**n! 🎂🐘💚

Today, 2 June 2026, our little boy turns 9 years old.

Many of you know Perm P**n as the curious young elephant who is almost always by his mum Aom’s side. Since the day he arrived at Samui Elephant Haven, they have been inseparable. Aom has always been a very protective mum, and Perm P**n has happily spent his days learning about the world from the safest place he knows—right next to her.
But Perm P**n’s story didn’t begin here.

Before coming to sanctuary life, he and Aom lived at a large elephant camp on Koh Samui. While Aom carried tourists for long hours each day, Perm P**n had to walk alongside her on his tiny legs, trying to keep up. In March 2019, everything changed. Together, they were rescued and brought to a place where they could simply be elephants.

Since then, we’ve watched Perm P**n grow from a playful calf into a strong, confident young elephant. He still has his gentle personality and curious nature, always observing, exploring, and finding new things to investigate. And yes, he still enjoys staying close to Mum whenever he can.

To celebrate his special day, our team prepared a giant elephant birthday cake packed with many of his favourite treats. 🎂🍉🍌🎃

Every year, it is a privilege to watch him grow up in an environment where he can make his own choices, form friendships, play, learn, and enjoy the freedom every elephant deserves.

Happy Birthday, Perm P**n. Thank you for bringing so much joy to our team and visitors over the years. Happy Birthday, Perm P**n. May your days continue to be filled with mud baths, and tasty treats. We can't wait to see what adventures your next year will bring. Happy Birthday, Perm P**n.

“Guess who’s the Matriarch?” 🐘🌿
Moloair wasn’t even trying… and still managed to look iconic.

This morning at Samui Elephant Haven, Samui and Nong Pech followed closely behind one very elegant lady as the herd made their way into the area together. Meanwhile, our two grandma elephants had completely different plans and casually went off on their own adventure instead. ✨

And honestly, we love these little herd dynamics so much.

Every elephant has their own personality, friendships, and daily mood. Some enjoy staying close together, while others prefer taking their time and doing things their own way. Nothing is forced here — the elephants choose where they walk, who they spend time with, and how they want to start their mornings.
That freedom is something very special to witness.

In elephant society, matriarchs are often respected through experience and presence rather than needing to lead every single step. Sometimes you can simply feel that calm, elegant energy without her needing to be at the very front.

Quiet mornings like this may seem simple, but they’re some of our favorite moments at the sanctuary. Just elephants being elephants, surrounded by companions they trust, moving at their own pace. 🌿🐘

After the rain stopped this afternoon, the sanctuary became incredibly peaceful. Mist covered the mountains, the air felt cool and fresh, and everything around us slowed down for a moment. Then Samui and Nong Pech came running through the field together, trumpeting side by side with so much happiness and energy. 🐘🌧️

Moments like this are always special for us to witness. Elephants naturally enjoy the cooler weather after the rain, and seeing them roam freely, play, and express themselves so comfortably is a beautiful reminder of why places like sanctuaries matter so much.

Samui stayed close to Nong Pech the entire time, walking and running together through the wet grass while the mist created the most beautiful background behind them. No pressure, no performances, just two elephants enjoying nature in their own way.

These quiet moments of freedom, comfort, and connection are what we cherish most here at Samui Elephant Haven. Thank you to everyone who supports ethical tourism and helps us continue giving elephants a peaceful place to simply be themselves. 🤍
