Life Will Destroy You...

We are out of balance. Society pushes us in many directions, and not all of them are good for us. Some are, but we take it to extremes.

Being out of balance temporarily is called a sprint--we push hard to the finish line to get something done.

Being out of balance daily on a long-term basis is called an obsession. It is not sustainable.

This is why getting our priorities in order is so critical to our long-term physical, spiritual, financial, and emotional success. We need to build our lives around balance. If we do, the rest will fall into place.

It's no different than lighting a fire or planting a garden. For fire, you need spark, oxygen, and fuel. For a garden, you need a seed, sun, and water. Balance is the fuel and water. Inspiration--the spark and the sun, only come when the state of balance is achieved.

Most of us are out of balance. This creates many problems in our lives, from health to relationship issues.

First Area of Balance: Fitness

Keeping physically fit and caring for the body is the first order of business in The Daily Practice.

A successful health and fitness regimen includes:

Staying active
Committing to do something on a regular basis
Picking activities you enjoy--fitness should not be a burden
Eating well
Getting enough sleep.

Most people make the mistake of making a New Year's Resolution type commitment about fitness. This almost never works because it seems like a burden.

Staying Active: You can only succeed in this journey if you make it fun. Physical activity can be anything you love--yoga, running, weights, crossfit, kickboxing. All of these things will get you physically fit if you do the work every day. Look at activity as a blessing--a part of your day that's fun and for you.

Eating Well: Start by trying to get rid of some of the processed foods in your life. Learn how to cook some healthy versions of your favorites. Use the internets wide resource to explore different styles of cooking--sustainable, tasty, local, cook-ahead...investigate foods that will help you take those first steps.

Don't do it all in one day, or you will be doomed to fail.

Take small steps into making healthy eating a lifestyle. Incorporate new foods and cuisines and do so by using fresh ingredients when possible.

There are tons of recipes out there--even ones you can prepare in just a few minutes.

Eating well contributes so much to mental and physical wellness.

This part can't be overlooked!
