การเดินทางในโลกกาแฟ มีหลายบทบาทให้เลือกเดิน
หนึ่งในบทบาทนั้นคือ “ผู้ตัดสิน”
ในแต่ละการแข่งขันของ World Coffee Championships
รูปแบบการตัดสินจะแตกต่างกันไปตามธรรมชาติของการแข่งขันนั้น ๆ

แต่สิ่งหนึ่งที่เหมือนกันเสมอคือ
" กรรมการไม่จำเป็นต้องคิดเหมือนกันทุกคน
แต่ต้องยืนอยู่บนหลักการเดียวกัน "

หลักการของกติกา มาตรฐานที่สูง และมุมมองที่เปิดกว้างอย่างแท้จริง
ในแต่ละประเทศจึงมี การแข่งขันระดับประเทศ
เพื่อคัดเลือกผู้ชนะ และพัฒนา ecosystem ของคนกาแฟในประเทศนั้น ๆ

" กรรมการระดับประเทศ" จะได้ตัดสินร่วมกับคนในวงการของประเทศตัวเอง ภายใต้มาตรฐานที่ประเทศนั้นกำลังเติบโตอยู่ และจะมีคนที่เรียกว่า "Representative"
ทำหน้าที่ช่วยดูแลการแข่งขัน เพื่อให้ประเทศเจ้าภาพมองเห็นภาพของมาตรฐานในระดับโลก

เมื่อใดก็ตามที่ประเทศหนึ่ง เริ่มมีระบบการแข่งขันที่เข้มแข็ง
หรือมีกรรมการระดับโลกเข้ามาร่วมตัดสิน
นั่นมักเป็นสัญญาณว่า
อุตสาหกรรมกาแฟของประเทศนั้นกำลังเติบโต
เพราะในโลกการแข่งขัน
ผู้เข้าแข่งขันคือคนที่ขับเคลื่อนเทรนด์ของอุตสาหกรรม
ทุกปีมีเทคนิคใหม่ แนวคิดใหม่ และวิธีการนำเสนอใหม่ ๆ เกิดขึ้นเสมอ

หากกรรมการทำหน้าที่เพียงปีละครั้ง
บางครั้งอาจตามมุมมองเหล่านั้นไม่ทัน

ด้วยเหตุนี้ การเรียนรู้ของกรรมการจึงไม่มีวันหยุด
การเรียน การฝึก การแลกเปลี่ยนมุมมอง ทำให้สายตาเปิดกว้างขึ้น และทักษะคมขึ้นในทุกปี

เรียนรู้ไปเรื่อย ๆ
- จนกว่าคุณจะรู้สึกสบายเมื่อขึ้นตัดสิน
- จนกว่าคุณจะเข้าใจสิ่งที่ผู้แข่งขันกำลังสื่อสารได้ทันที
- จนกว่าคุณจะชิมแล้วอธิบายได้ชัด เขียนได้ไว และสื่อสารกับแพแนลได้อย่างราบรื่น
- จนกว่าคุณจะไม่เพียง “รับฟัง”
แต่สามารถ วิเคราะห์ได้จริง ในฐานะผู้ตัดสิน และในฐานะมืออาชีพของวงการกาแฟ

เมื่อคุณสบายกับการตัดสินในประเทศแล้ว
ลองออกไปตัดสินในต่างประเทศ

เมื่อคุณสบายทั้งในและต่างประเทศ
ลองสอบเป็น WCC Judge

และเมื่อคุณเดินมาถึงจุดนั้นแล้ว
ลองตัดสินในเวทีที่คุณไม่เคยตัดสินมาก่อน
ลองทดสอบทักษะใหม่ ๆ ของตัวเองอีกครั้ง

การเดินทางของกรรมการ ไม่มีเส้นชัยที่แท้จริง
มีเพียงการเติบโต ตาม rhythm ของแต่ละคน
ขอให้สนุกกับการเดินทางนะคะ

The journey in coffee offers many roles to walk into.
One of them is the role of a judge.

In each World Coffee Championships competition,
the judging process is different, because every championship has its own format and focus.

However, one thing remains the same:
Judges do not need to think the same.
But they must stand on the same principles.

The principles of the rules. A high standard.
And a truly open perspective.

That is why every country holds national championships.

These competitions allow judges within the country
to evaluate competitors from their own coffee community, within the context and standards of that country’s industry.

At the same time, there are Representatives
who support and oversee the competition,
helping the organizing country see the bigger picture
from a global perspective.

When a country begins to build a strong competition system, or when international-level judges are involved,
it often signals that the coffee industry in that country is evolving.

Because in competition, competitors are the ones who drive the industry forward. Every year brings new techniques, new ideas, and new ways of presenting coffee.

If a judge only steps onto the judging panel once a year, it can be difficult to keep up with how fast things move. This is why continuous learning is essential for judges.

Learning, training, and exchanging perspectives
allow judges to expand their vision and refine their skills year after year.

Learning never really ends.
- Until you feel comfortable stepping onto the judging table.
- Until you can easily understand what a competitor is trying to communicate.
- Until you can taste something, explain it clearly,
write quickly, and communicate smoothly with your panel and head judge.
- Until you are not just listening, but truly analyzing
as both a judge and a professional in the coffee industry.

If you feel comfortable judging in your own country,
try judging in another country.

If you feel comfortable in both environments,
try becoming a WCC Judge and judging on the world stage.

And once you reach that point,
try judging in championships you have never judged before. Challenge yourself with new skills and new perspectives.

The journey of a judge does not really have a finish line.

It simply continues to grow, following the rhythm of each person’s path.
