The Cabin and the Protector Dog: While house-sitting at his brother's remote wooded cabin, the narrator and the German Shepherd, Cooper, experience increasingly alarming events. Cooper acts strangely, barking aggressively at nothing and at a tapping sound on the kitchen window. One night, the bedroom door opens mysteriously, Cooper runs outside chasing an intruder into the woods, and returns terrified. The police confirm someone was stalking the cabin and had broken in, likely chased away by the dog.

The Stranded Cars on a Rural Road: Driving home late at night on a deserted rural road, the narrator passes two seemingly abandoned cars on the shoulder. Moments later, they hit an object on the road, causing a flat tire. As they assess the damage, a jittery, disturbing-looking man emerges from the trees and approaches their car. Feeling an immediate sense of danger, the narrator drives away on the flat tire. Days later, they learn two people went missing on that road the same night, their cars matching the abandoned ones seen. The narrator realizes they narrowly avoided becoming a third victim of a suspected trap.
