▫️ What is Revival Typeface?

A revival typeface is the process of bringing old, unfinished, or forgotten letterforms back to life. In the past, many custom letterings were created for specific uses like film titles or posters, but they were never fully developed into complete typefaces. Revival means studying those old designs, keeping their original feeling, and rebuilding them so they work properly for modern designers and digital use. It is not copying the past, but improving and adapting it for today.

▫️ Project brief

This type study is part of my thesis project,
“The Cross Media Evolution of Art Direction in Title Design within the American Cosmic Horror Genre from 1970 to 2000.”

My research explores how typography in American cosmic horror films influenced title sequences, posters, and printed media, and how these designs reflected the cultural fears of their time.

ဒါက တစ်ချိန်တုန်းက သုံးခဲ့ဖူးတဲ့ ဒါမှမဟုတ် မေ့ပျောက်ခံထားရတဲ့ စာလုံးပုံစံဟောင်းတွေကို ပြန်လည်အသက်သွင်းတဲ့ လုပ်ငန်းစဉ်တစ်ခုပါ။ အရင်တုန်းက ရုပ်ရှင်ခေါင်းစဉ်တွေ၊ ပိုစတာတွေအတွက် စာလုံးဒီဇိုင်းတွေ အများကြီးရှိခဲ့ပေမယ့် အများစုက သုံးပြီးတာနဲ့ ပြီးသွားတာမျိုး၊ စနစ်ကျတဲ့ စာလုံးဒီဇိုင်းအဖြစ် အပြည့်အဝ မတည်ဆောက်ဖြစ်ခဲ့ကြဘူး။ ဒီတစ်ခါတော့ အဲ့ဒီဒီဇိုင်းအဟောင်းတွေကို ပြန်လေ့လာတယ်၊ မူလခံစားမှုကို မပျက်ယောင်အောင် ထိန်းထားတယ်၊ ပြီးတော့ ခေတ်နဲ့အညီ ဒီဂျစ်တယ်စနစ်နဲ့ သုံးလို့အဆင်ပြေအောင် ပြန်မွမ်းမံတာပါ။ တိုက်ရိုက်ကြီး ကူးယူတာမဟုတ်ဘဲ လက်ရှိခေတ်နဲ့ လိုက်လျောညီထွေဖြစ်အောင် ပြန်လည်ပြုပြင်တာကို ဆိုလိုတာပါ။

ဒီ Type Study က ကျွန်တော့် Final Year Thesis Projectရဲ့ တစ်စိတ်တစ်ပိုင်းလည်း final outcome လည်းဖြစ်ပါတယ်။

Topicက ဘာကို ဆိုလိုချင်တာလဲဆိုတော့ 1970-2000 အဲ့ ခေတ်ကာလ အပိုင်းအခြားက လူတွေ အပေါ် American Cosmic Horror ရုပ်ရှင်တွေ၊ ရုပ်ရှင် Title Design တွေ၊ Poster တွေ၊ ကြော်ငြာတွေ ဘယ်လောက်လွှမ်းမိုးနိုင် ခဲ့သလဲ၊ ပြီးတော့ အဲ့ဒီ ဒီဇိုင်းတွေက လူတွေရဲ့ ကြောက်ရွံ့မှုတွေ၊ စိုးရိမ်ပူပန်မှုတွေကို ဘယ်လိုပုံဖော်ပြခဲ့သလဲဆိုတာကို သေချာလေး စာတမ်းပြုစုပြီး လေ့လာရ တာပါ။
