Today, World Vision joined civil society partners and several organisations under the children’s consortium for a capacity-building workshop on child participation, facilitated by the The Deputy Prime Minister's Office Eswatini and supported by World Vision and Unicef Eswatini.

Officially opening the workshop, Under Secretary in the Deputy Prime Minister’s Office, Makhosi Simelane, noted that consultations with children often risk becoming routine exercises rather than genuine dialogue. He emphasised that this workshop is a critical step towards ensuring children’s voices are meaningfully included in decision-making processes that affect their lives.

World Vision’s Senior Integrated Sponsorship and Child Protection Lead, Zanele Gamedze, delivered a comprehensive presentation on the organisation’s Transformative Child Engagement approach. She emphasised that child participation goes beyond simply giving children a voice, it is about empowering them as active agents of change who can influence decisions and contribute to sustainable development outcomes.

Zanele highlighted that meaningful child participation must be safe, inclusive, and age-appropriate, ensuring that children are not just present, but have real influence. She stressed the importance of moving away from tokenistic engagement towards genuine partnerships between children, families, communities, and institutions, grounded in mutual respect.

She further noted that World Vision prioritises reaching the most vulnerable children, including girls, children with disabilities, and those in fragile contexts, ensuring that no child is left behind. Through structured approaches such as child-led clubs, community dialogues, and advocacy platforms, children are supported to build confidence, leadership, and life skills while actively shaping their communities.
