PT/EN | Este ano, demos início a um percurso com mulheres que estão atualmente a aprender com a equipa como navegar e ultrapassar os desafios enfrentados por mulheres no setor da conservação ♀️

Em São Tomé, foi lançado um concurso público, tendo sido selecionadas beneficiárias entre 40 candidaturas. As participantes incluem mulheres de zonas rurais próximas de áreas protegidas, bem como mulheres da capital.

No Príncipe, cada participante representa uma organização que trabalha ativamente na conservação da biodiversidade ou na promoção da igualdade de género na ilha.

Estamos muito entusiasmados por acompanhar o vosso percurso de crescimento e aprendizagem!

PT/EN | This year, we began a journey with women who are currently learning with the team how to navigate and overcome the challenges faced by women in the biodiversity conservation ♀️

In São Tomé, a public call was launched, and beneficiaries were selected from 40 applications. The participants include women from rural areas near protected regions, as well as women from the capital city.

In Príncipe, each participant represents an organization actively working in biodiversity conservation or in promoting gender equality across the island.

Global Big Day – 09 De Maio
📢 Vamos juntos colocar São Tomé e Príncipe no mapa mundial da observação de aves!

No dia 09 de Maio vamos participar no Global Big Day, o maior evento mundial de observação de aves! O objetivo é simples: registar o maior número possível de espécies de aves num só dia, contribuindo para a conservação da biodiversidade e colocando o Príncipe no mapa global da ciência cidadã. Os registos serão feitos principalmente através da plataforma eBird.

Mesmo sem sair de casa, todos podem participar observando aves a partir do quintal, varanda ou janela. Mesmo para aqueles que não conhecem os nomes das aves poderão participar usando o APK Merlin Bird.

Vamos juntos celebrar e proteger a nossa natureza!

PT/EN | Um pouco sobre nós: quem somos?

Somos um grupo multidisciplinar de 17 mulheres (e aberto a mais!): sociólogas, psicólogas, biólogas, educadoras e gestoras de projeto. Criámos a iniciativa Forest Tales para construir um espaço seguro onde possamos aprender, partilhar, colaborar e inspirar outras mulheres.

Este é o primeiro grupo totalmente feminino dedicado a ensinar o que significa ser técnica de conservação e educadora em São Tomé e Príncipe, começando por algo essencial: compreender e partilhar os desafios de ser mulher nesta área.

Juntas, procuramos mudar narrativas, amplificando as vozes de pessoas sub-representadas e de espécies frequentemente ignoradas na conservação da biodiversidade!

A little about us: who are we?

We are a diverse group with varied passions: a multidisciplinary team of 17 women (and open to more!): we are sociologists, psychologists, biologists, educators, and project managers. We created the Forest Tales initiative to build a safe space where we can learn, share, collaborate, and inspire other women.

This is the first all-female group dedicated to exploring what it means to be a conservation technician and educator in São Tomé and Príncipe starting with understanding and sharing the challenges of being a woman in this field.

Together, we aim to reshape narratives by amplifying the voices of underrepresented people and often overlooked species in biodiversity conservation!
