In some regions, especially during the rainy season, flooding is a major issue, making water overly abundant but often unsafe for drinking. On the other hand, in urban areas like Juba, clean and safe water can be a scarce and expensive resource despite the River Nile passing by.

The high cost of water in Juba stems from several factors, including poor infrastructure, lack of proper water treatment facilities, and the cost of transportation and distribution. Even though the Nile provides a nearby water source, much of it is not treated for safe use, leading to a reliance on private vendors who charge high prices. This paradox of water abundance and scarcity reflects broader issues of infrastructure development and resource management in the country.
