"Choosing Dialogue over conflict and reconciliation over retaliation is Key"
The Pakam people are an integral part of the Agaar Dinka community in Rumbek North County. Subsections such as
โขGak Manuer
โขNielniel
โขLieth
โขAnien and Akorkor are bound together by shared history, culture and destiny. Historically before modern government and schools, Pakam people already valued dialogue, order and responsibility. Elders and chiefs guided the community through dialogue, customary laws and reconciliation. Conflicts were addressed through discussion, compensation and forgiveness so that the unity could be preserved.
Education among Pakam did not begin today's classrooms. It began in cattle camps, homes and community gatherings. Children were taught respect, patience and the importance of living together peacefully. This traditional education helped maintain peace and harmony among clans and neighboring communities.
With the arrival of modern education through churches and the government, peace and reconciliation remained the foundation of progress in Rumbek North County. When clans understand their shared ancestry, they may be better prepared to forgive their past and current grievances, reconcile and work together for the common future.
We encourage dialogue, unity and reconciliation among all sections of Pakam and wider neighboring communities.
Our people should choose dialogue over conflict and reconciliation over retaliation.
