NSS confirms no casualties after fire guts ‘Blue House’ headquarters

The National Security Service (NSS) has confirmed that no casualties were recorded after a fire destroyed its main administrative building, popularly known as the “Blue House,” in the early hours of today.

In a statement, the NSS said the fire broke out at around 12:15 a.m. at the Internal Security Bureau (ISB) headquarters, where the Administration Division is housed. All personnel were safely accounted for.

The agency’s preliminary assessment suggests the blaze was likely caused by an electrical fault, although a full investigation is underway to establish the exact cause and determine the extent of the damage

JUBA, South Sudan — The U.S. dollar has reached a historic high on Juba’s parallel foreign exchange market, with black market dealers quoting SSP 700,000 for buying and SSP 720,000 for selling.

This marks the first time the U.S. dollar has reached the SSP 700,000 threshold on the parallel market, signaling a deepening foreign exchange crisis.

The sharp depreciation of the South Sudanese Pound is expected to drive up the prices of imported goods and services, including fuel, food, medicine, and other essential commodities, as many businesses continue to depend on the parallel market to access foreign currency.

Meanwhile, the Bank of South Sudan maintained its official exchange rate at SSP 4,694.2674 for buying and SSP 4,847.5395 for selling, underscoring the enormous gap between the official and parallel market exchange rates.
