South Sudan is experiencing severe flooding in 2024, affecting over 1.3 million people across 42 counties, with Jonglei and Northern Bahr el Ghazal states among the hardest hit. Heavy rains have flooded large areas, displacing more than 327,000 people and rendering 15 critical supply routes impassable, which hampers the delivery of humanitarian aid. The displacement has intensified food insecurity, especially in remote areas where access to aid is now limited. Flooding has forced many people to leave behind their possessions and livelihoods, adding to the nation’s already critical humanitarian needs due to recent conflict and high levels of poverty and malnutrition.
