Truth, Healing, and the Journey Toward Peace in South Sudan

This week, WOCO took part in a special radio discussion on Chapter Five of the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of Conflict in South Sudan (R-ARCSS) — focusing on Transitional Justice, the Commission for Truth, Reconciliation and Healing (CTRH), and the Compensation and Reparation Authority (CRA).

The program brought together voices of faith and civil society, including:

Father Paulino Tipo Deng — Catholic Priest and Comboni Missionary.

Mr. Juanis Mogo — JRAP Officer and Accountability to Affected Populations (AAP) Officer at WOCO and Hon Achol Dak Akol

💬 Moderated by Charles Kemak and Marline

Father Paulino reminded listeners that truth and reconciliation are not only political processes but also spiritual journeys. “The Church is a sacrament of reconciliation,” he said. “When we speak the truth and seek forgiveness, we allow healing to begin — both within individuals and across communities.”
Representing WOCO, Mr. Wanis Mogo emphasized the organization’s grassroots engagement in promoting justice and healing, saying:

“Our work, in partnership with UNDP, ensures that victims and survivors — especially women, children, and displaced people — are included in the consultative process of truth and reparation.

He further noted that the Compensation and Reparation Authority (CRA) must be accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities and those who cannot read or write — ensuring that no one is left behind in the journey toward justice.
Father Paulino also shared experiences from his peace and mediation work abroad, reminding us that lasting peace always grows through dialogue and faith:

“There is nothing impossible for those who trust in God. Through dialogue, we discover truth — and through truth, we find peace.”

✨ At WOCO, we believe that healing South Sudan starts from the
ground up — with communities, faith institutions, and citizens working hand in hand for truth, reconciliation, and lasting peace.
