Vice President’s office mourns death of Deputy Director for Protocol in road accident

The Office of the Vice President and Chairperson of Service Cluster has announced the untimely passing of Mr. Moses Agany Deng, Deputy Director for Protocol, following a tragic road accident in Malual Khon, Aweil East County of Northern Bahr El Ghazal State.

According to a statement issued by the Office of the Vice President, Mr. Agany died on the morning of June 3, 2026, while traveling from Amerjal Village to Wanyjok, the headquarters of Aweil East County.

The Vice President of the Republic and Chairperson of the Service Delivery Cluster, Hussein Abdelbagi Akol, expressed deep sorrow over the loss and directed security personnel and staff to establish the circumstances surrounding the fatal accident. The Office said details of the incident will be shared with the family and mourners once investigations are completed.

The Vice President is reportedly in direct contact with the family of the deceased.

Mr. Agany served in the Office of the Vice President for six years, earning recognition for his dedication, professionalism, and loyal service.

The Office extended its heartfelt condolences to his family, relatives, friends, colleagues, and all those affected by his passing, describing his death as a significant loss.

Funeral and burial arrangements are expected to be communicated by the family and relevant authorities in due course.

US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday the United States did not need troops on the ground against Iran, saying bombing had destroyed much of its military.

“We don't need boots on the ground,” Trump said in an interview with Pod Force One released on Wednesday.

“We wiped out much of their military with just bombing,” he said. “We didn't put everybody on the ground. You don't want to do that.”

Trump said the situation was “rapidly evolving” and moving in a positive direction.

“They're not going to have a nuclear weapon and lots of other good things are going to happen,” he said.

Trump said Iran had agreed it would not have a nuclear weapon, adding that Iran’s Supreme Leader was involved in negotiations with Washington.

He said Iran’s leader was giving approval in the talks, adding that he would probably meet him at some point.

The accident occurred while the deceased was en route from Madhol to Wanyjok for a fuel refill when the vehicle veered off the road.
