A Day in The Life Campaign
We are going through A Day in The Life at our fantastic company. Today we are featuring Andrea Haffner an Environmentalist at CEMMATS GROUP LTD
Q1. What time do you normally arrive at work and what’s the first thing you do?
Answer: Between 8:45am and 9:15am. I usually check my emails and calendar first thing in the morning
Q2. Take us through a typical day – what does it look like for you?
Answer: I set up my computer and check my calendar and emails for the tasks I have ahead for the day. I then take my flask to the kitchen, make myself some tea to get me started off for the day and make my way to my Manager's office. We usually talk through different activities for the day and days ahead and I make my way back to my office to start off the day in proper. Normally, I have until 10am to check my private WhatsApp messages and respond to family members before the icons are frozen so I can concentrate at work. Afterwards, I delve fully into work, sometimes having to make trips out of the office. At 2pm, lunch arrives and I take a half hour break off work if I can then go back to work until 4:30 when office hours end officially.
Q3. What’s your favorite thing about being an environmentalist?
Answer: I enjoy the adventure of discovering/ becoming aware of scientific facts about the environment of new places I visit. Research work reveals to me all the details of a place and how important it is. I feel honoured to be able to contribute towards ensuring future generations are catered for through sustainable development
Q4. What’s the most memorable project you’ve ever worked on?
Answer: None at CEMMATS yet
Q5. What do you find challenging about being an environmentalist?
Answer: Being an environmentalist sometimes takes me to remote, difficult-to-access locations where comfort is far-fetched and all I wish for is to be in my own bed, but I handle it for what it is and take it as part of the adventures of an environmentalist- this keeps me going.
Q6. What do you think is the biggest misconception about your career?
Answer: Many people think it's just about walking in the forests looking at animals for fun. They have not conceived the connection/ inter-relation between the environment and sustainability of human life. I always have to explain how important the job of an environmentalist is for our very existence.
Q7. What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learnt in your career so far?
Answer: I must not be limited. There is still a lot to learn, a lot to share, more skills to acquire, more work to be done if only I desire to...
Q8. What time does your workday usually finish and how do you like to relax?
Answer: Depending on the workload at different times, work usually ends at 4:30 but can sometimes continues until I complete the task at hand. After, I like to spend time with my family
