Professor Kelleh Gbawuru Mansaray Leads Sierra Leone's Energy Transition Efforts at UK CEPREC Meeting
Professor Kelleh Gbawuru Mansaray, Deputy Vice-Chancellor and TEA-LP Programme Coordinator at Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone, recently represented Sierra Leone at the Circular Economy Powered Renewable Energy Centre (CEPREC) kick-off meeting in the UK.
This UK-funded multi-million-dollar initiative brought together experts from the UK and six African nations to advance sustainable energy solutions through circular economy principles applied to renewable microgrid technologies.
During the event, Professor Mansaray emphasized CEPREC's crucial role in training energy professionals, fostering clean energy innovation, and developing policy frameworks to accelerate Sierra Leone's energy transition.
"By integrating circular economy principles, we are paving the way for sustainable and inclusive energy access that supports economic transformation and community resilience," he stated.
As part of this initiative, Professor Mansaray will supervise Sierra Leonean PhD students researching Circular Economy Microgrid Technologies.

Excited to share our TEA-LP Master's programme field trips to renewable energy installations in Sierra Leone! πβ‘
Our students recently visited the Mange 150 kW Solar PV Minigrid and the Bankasoka 2 MW Small Hydropower Station in Port Loko. These educational visits provide invaluable hands-on experience with real-world renewable energy technologies.
The field trips allowed our students to witness:
Solar PV minigrid control systems
Community resource centers powered by renewable energy
Water storage infrastructure
Greenhouse demonstration sites
Hydropower turbine operations
Flood control mechanisms
These practical experiences complement our classroom teachings and prepare our students to lead Sierra Leone's energy transition. Special thanks to the site engineers and facility staff for their insightful explanations!
